Data Science
I have worked as a Senior UX Designer and Business Analyst in Amgen’s Data Science division, and I am currently studying Data Science at UCLA Extension.
You can see some samples here.
My topics include:
- SQL
- Python
- Data Visualization
- Microsoft Excel and techniques like VLookup
- R
- Tableau
Currently, UX and Data Science are considered two different disciplines. I believe they should at least work together, and I am developing a methodology to join them.
UX shows best practices and perhaps the results of a small user test, Data Science shows the unbiased data coming in from thousands or even millions of users. It might even show how all of a website/app’s users are interacting with the product.
I believe that data showing how all users are interacting with a product should be part of UX.
My Methodology to Join UX and Data Science
The methodology to join UX is fairly straightforward – include a section Data Science in UX reports.
Even if the UX report is on an exploratory or a competitive analysis topic, there is room for Data Science.
Business Intelligence and UX should work together to give Stakeholders a full view of how users are truly engaging with the website/app – and including at least a page of Data Science in every report will help make this happen.
